Hi all, This question has been bugging me for a while. I have a daughter with Autism that attended preschool services in Arizona with our school district for a year and a half. Once we got ABA therapy services, we found that ABA could offer much more help for my daughter than the school ever could. When we would ask questions at our IEP meetings the answer we seem to always get is “Preschool services are limited.” Is that true? How can I examine what is the actual truth about preschool services for Arizona schools? We received the invite for our three year old daughter's initial IEP into developmental preschool. They are requesting that we excuse the general education teacher from the meeting "because the attendance of the general educator is not necessary because the student is not and will not be participating in the general education environment." I am wondering what the positives and negatives of excusing the teacher would be, and if we excuse the teacher for this meeting, would they be excused from future meetings as well?

My youngest is currently in early intervention for speech and I like to think it's going well. We have the better part of a year before she would transition and I'm honestly not sure what I should be looking for. Would the Early Intervention folks give recommendations on this?

I have a client in MO who had an evaluation done on her 3 year old. He qualifies for an IEP under Autism. The school district is in the process of writing up the IEP. However, mom will not be sending her son to public school. After the IEP meeting, do we let the school know right then? If so, what is the process and what documents does mom need to sign for this? Mom wants the IEP in place in case the private school does not work out for her son.

My son is 3, he taught himself all the 8 planets, and the dwarf planets. He's currently teaching himself the states and interested in geography. He does show some early signs of dyslexia, but I just found out the way I parent is naturally in a "multisensory" way. We have a family history of giftedness and dyslexia. His sister is 5. I have a four year old level two autistic grandson and he is attending public preschool in a class blended with special needs and typical children. The class has eight children, one special education teacher and three aides. He is having behavioral issues, such as biting, hitting, and scratching his teachers and students. He does this at home as well. He does talk some, but can’t communicate very well. His teacher has tried to pinpoint what the cause of the behavior is but it’s pretty random. Hi everyone. I’m looking for advice.. I have an almost 5yr old daughter. She has an extensive IEP and has significant delays (overall 24 months developmentally) She has been placed in an OOD preschool program this past school year. The team, including our private neuropsych is suggesting repeating preschool next year with a PM kindergarten program (all being at the OOD placement ) I am torn on what to do. I originally thought that was the perfect plan but now I’m doubting it. I would love her to be at her home district and I think with the right supports she may do just fine. But they gave a special needs three year old and the school says there's nothing they can do. Isn't there a way of making the school provide therapy, OT, speech, or something?

Hi. My child is transitioning from EI to preschool and wakes up very early around 5am everyday and has very rigid routines and difficulty transitioning. Has never separated from parents and has extreme anxiety. Since the school year has started and most of the morning sessions for preschool have filled up my child will have to attend the afternoon session which will start after 12 pm. By that time my child would be exhausted and would need to nap. I am wondering if there is anything on the IEP that can help me get a morning placement? Thankyou!

My kindergartner cannot recognize all letters of alphabet and letter sounds. Her teacher said they covered this the first weeks of school and they are done working on the alphabet. They have spelling tests each week and are expected to write sentences with these words each night. We are overwhelmed! Is this how it is in all kindergartens? We need to be building a foundation for her education and they are leaving my girl behind. Any ideas?
