November 16, 20223 yr In Georgia My 12 year old informed me that he had his speech evaluation (doesn’t currently have an IEP but does have a 504) done over a zoom call. The evaluator is based in Florida. i know COVID has brought on some funny ways of doing evaluations but how is this ok? There is no personal relationship made, they couldn’t physically see my son. He does much better over a computer screen than in person as well. A large concern of mine was in social language. I wasn’t told it would be a virtual evaluation. My 6 year old also has an IEP and he was alway seen in person.
November 17, 20223 yr On-line does work for some students, but it sounds like you have some valid specific concerns. I would put your concerns in writing, specifically that the evaluater was not able to see him, and that you are concerned with his social language. I would ask for an additional evaluation of his social language. CM
November 17, 20223 yr Moderators Funny! I just updated this the other day. It was very covid-specific, but has been adjusted since most of us are back to in person learning. https://adayinourshoes.com/iep-assessments-evaluations-reed-virtual/ ⚡ More ways I can help with your IEP or 504 Plan⚡ Get it Now: Anxiety at School IEP Toolkit NEW: How to Read your Child's IEP (and actually understand what it says!) ✨ Special Education Advocacy Training ✨ (registration opens soon) For Teachers: Faster, Easier IEP Data Collection + Present Levels
