Does This IEP Make Sense? What should I ask for?

My son is in the moderate cognitive class and he has two class mates that chronically cuss and call him bad names. The school states those students have tics and cannot control it. However, often it is directed at my son. He is very by the book follow the rules so the cussing and name calling really triggers him then he has an outburst; breaks his water bottle, needs time outside of class to walk and cool off, etc. while the other students get to remain in class and continue this same thing daily. I have asked what we can do about it and the teacher said nothing. What are your thoughts?

A 15 year old was suspended from school with an IEP for 1.5 days. Can we legally request the video of the incident?

Son is in 1st grade, gen ed, public school Academically inclined. Socially delayed, can be violent, big behaviors, Autistic, Emotional Impairment classification on IEP. Student is to receive Social Work services, multiple times per month. School started in August. No SW on staff, parents aren't informed. My 3rd grade was recently denied an IEP. Stating she does not meet the criteria for SLD. She has been in tier 2 reading support for a couple of years now and just started math support as well. The data shows she is making progress. And I do see her reading progressing and she has a love for it. But the testing discovered (and confirmed my suspicions) that she has slow processing. I'm also VERY concerned with her writing and spelling , more so than her reading honestly. But they show she is "average " in both, which shocks me. They referred me to the 504 coordinated. Hi! I am a stay at home mom. My son is in first grade. He desperately needs a Para. His IEP leader says let's try other ways first. His teacher has stopped trying. Nothing gets done. Can I qualify to be my son's Para? That way the school won't have to pay and the teacher won't be so overwhelmed? 🤷

My 8th grade son (educational autism IEP) receives an accommodation for extended time on assignments, but according to new language in his IEP, assignments must be turned in by the end of the unit. My son's social studies teacher makes large project assignments due on the last day of the unit. As a result, my son does not receive any extended time on the assignments, even though these large project assignments are the exact type of assignments that my son struggles with due to executive functioning issues. I have two questions. First, we had the initial 3 year reevaluation IEP meeting. My understanding is that your child has a legal right to be retested every 3 years but maybe there are details that I have not been able to find documentation on. I requested testing in math & a complete psychological reevaluation. However, the school psychologist said she needed a valid reason why I wanted those tests & then she said she needed to know how that testing would benefit my child. My son(5th gr) is in the Life Skills class at his middle school. He has escalations/ outbursts at least 2-4 times a day with most of them ending in being taken to the “blue”(padded) room. He has been considered a harm to himself and to others. Hi My 9th grade daughter just started a virtual IOP. It requires 3 hours of group therapy 3 times per week plus 1 hour individual per week. She has an IEP for her OCD, and anxiety. She has been very school avoidant on and off for the past 2 years. Does anyone have any thoughts on Home and Hospital vs Independent Study while completing an IOP? The school is supportive and understands she needs to focus on her mental health first. I do not feel like my grandson is being served to suit his needs. He received exceptional learning services because he did not get a good foundation for reading in the first grade. Second grade, he qualified for services in February, 2024. What educational impact would/could be seen/linked to LPT3 subtest scores indicating difficulties in the areas of categorization and generating attributes of common nouns? Also demonstrated slow processing speed throughout the assessment for formal and informal activities.

My 2nd grader in inclusion class was diagnosed with autism, adhd and receptive-expressive language disorder in kindergarten (private neuropsych eval). He was classified Autism and OHI, but denied speech and language services because school eval showed average scores. I have a now 16 yr old disabled non verbal son in a Boston public school. I have denied my sons iep for the past 2 yrs due to my son having food lodge in his throat for 7 plus hours, multiple times, and them having no equipment that was on my son's iep. My question is it legal for the school to call dcf and have them threaten to take my child from me if I do not sign the iep the way the school wants ?

My third grade son had his IEP last week on February 8. I requested that his case manager send me the IEP draft for review after the meeting so that I can review it and submit any comments before it is locked. His case manager told me that she is unable to do so and that I can request an amendment or correction after it locks if needed. I have been through the IEP process multiple times and I always request the opportunity to review the draft before it is locked. Do I have a right to do so? Any recommendations?

What do you all do when you disagree with or there is an omission of a refusal in the PWN? I did see in one of the resources that the content of the PWN is at the discretion of the LEA so is it possible to specifically ask that they document a specific refusal on the PWN?

Hi, My granddaughter has been identified as a student with a learning disabilty. She has not made progreas on her goals in 2 years. Tbey rewrite tbe goals but then add grade level goals. Nothing is skill based. When confrited as to why she isnt meeting the goals. We are being told its behavioral. An fba was ordered. It was found tbat she avoids things that she isnt confident in. Hense most of her classes. We have asked for intervents and tbey have not been given. What should we do?

Hi everyone. I did not do this evaluation journey the way I was supposed to. Ok, here's the dilemma. My daughter is a Sophomore in high school. Struggles to keep up. I am asking this on the behalf of my sibling who is a general education teacher. She has a student who is very aggressive, mercurial, and is completely unable to keep up with the rest of the class. So, the student has been observed and data is being collected. Here's the thing: this started at the beginning of last school year. Yes, it's been a year and a half of data collection. The kid clearly needs more help than the standard classroom, but the district keeps saying "we'll see, try this intervention and we'll check back". If an OT quits without giving notice, how is this service implemented on the IEP moving forward until the school hires a new OT? Are they required to continue services by outside agency? Does the school keep track of missing services until the school hires OT? Can a family request outside services to be provided and paid for from the school district until someone is hire? My third grade child in PA has a 1:1 for academic supports but school is saying that anything instructional isn't allowed for 1:1 to provide because that's the teachers/therapists role. Where can I find information to counter their argument. They won't even let the 1:1 chunk down instructions. My child can't follow multi-steps instructions and if 1:1 can't provide it when GenEd teacher is giving instructions throughout the class, how would she process information? Chunk down instructions is in the SDI but the 1:1 needs to be allowed to do it throughout the day.
