Does This IEP Make Sense? What should I ask for?

Tl;dr: I’m an AuDHD parent going into my first ever IEP meeting and I’m struggling to feel ready for it. I need help. Hi there. My son is 5, entered K in September, was evaluated by a psychologist over the summer and Dx’d with ADHD-C, has had the psych report and input from my partner and me and his pre-K teachers reviewed by the IEP team at his school, and we have the IEP meeting scheduled for Monday (4 days away). We are 10 months into our IEP. Fought to get evaluations and my mom hunch was correct, My Daughter (5th grade) was diagnosed with several specific learning and visual challenges. On her list of accommodations/modifications, it reads "Setting" - Frequency - Individual Testing for tests, State tests (SOLS) - she gets verbal testing. Last year, all of her tests (classroom or SOL) were done in a different room typically with the special education teacher or a para-professional. Can you have an advocate while homeschooling. I had a lawyer that was going to work pro bonda but the couldn't take my case because I am homeschooling and the school can't garintee fape. I understand that privet school don't have to fallow iep and homeschooling can be considered private school but how would this fall under child fine if fape can't be given. Are there any free or low costs advocates in Massachusetts

Hi all, My 5th grader qualified for an IEP 2 years ago due to severe anxiety. The first year, she only had two goals, both of which focused on coping strategies and self-advocacy. She had no academic goals. Prior to her IEP meeting last year, she was diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder, as well as Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The team could see that 4th grade was a big jump for her and her executive functioning wasn't there, so they added a goal for that. I found out at back to school night (which was after school started) that my child has been assigned a 1 on 1 aide, this is NOT in his IEP. I don't even know what to think or do about this? I have asked for an IEP meeting (that they keep refusing to hold) but what should I be asking about this 1 on 1 and her role. TIA!

hello my daughter is having a fantastic year after a complete horror show dumpster fire last year. and of course we just learned the teacher is pregnant and will be going out on maternity leave in February. i feel like ive read in previous posts regular subs (ie for the day) dont really have access to IEPs because of privacy issues but may get a heads up from a teacher on strategies that work or whatever. for a long term sub (6 weeks) what do they get for IEP kids? my daughter had a terrible year last year because they were honestly just kind of mean. there was a lot of "you're in 3rd grade now you should know how to do that" (to a disabled child with a mile lo…

How long does the school have to set up a IEP meeting to finish going over goals, etc after it's been reconvened? It's been a week now and haven't heard back from the school so was wondering. It would be on a 3 year re-evaluation. Thanks.

We just had our eligibility meeting. It went as expected as the school proposed terminating all services as no evidence showed autism affecting the child's education. I am proud of my child! But I do have concerns. Anyways, to me, the whole process is like it doesn't matter what the testing results say. It comes down to the observation of others, including therapist's, the classroom teacher's, and/or whoever else had worked with my child. According to my child's teacher, my child has been making friends, interacting with peers, and progressing at or above grade level academically. I had my son’s Initial IEP meeting just last week. He is 6 years old and minimally verbal. The IEP team tried to dictate the whole meeting and decided that speech and language therapy would be the services he gets. I asked about a 1:1 aide because throughout the Eligibility meeting and the IEP meeting, it was obvious that he struggles to stay on task and measured between 6-10th percentile while his peers measure at the 50th percentile, etc. It was almost quickly shut down because my son can feed himself and doesn’t use a diaper and he’s “independent”. Hi! My son had a behavior incident on Monday that resulted in a “in school” suspension on Tuesday. Question is - do we need to have a manifestation determination hearing for the in school suspension or are these hearings just for out of school suspensions? I’m thinking we do need to have one, but would like someone to just check my thoughts and let me know I am right.

Hi! I am a stay at home mom. My son is in first grade. He desperately needs a Para. His IEP leader says let's try other ways first. His teacher has stopped trying. Nothing gets done. Can I qualify to be my son's Para? That way the school won't have to pay and the teacher won't be so overwhelmed? 🤷
