Does This IEP Make Sense? What should I ask for?

Hello, I am a resource room teacher (and also a parent of a child in special education) with a question about SDI time. I am struggling a bit to explain my question but here goes... I have several students who are unable to maintain the pace of the general education classroom for math and reading. They should really be following a hybrid resource/life skills program but logistically that will not work so they are strictly in the resource room/mainstream setting. My son started kindergarten this fall in an ICT classroom at a public school. Although he had a tough time transitioning and dealt with separation anxiety for a week or so, he seems to have settled into the school routine (which was a lot better than pre-K). I requested an IEP for his speech delay and sensory seeking tendencies as he had been receiving private ST and OT while he was in pre-K. Is any of this a change in placement or denial of FAPE? If so, what do we do and can you reference the law in IDEA that applies? We are in Ohio. 1. Hello, my son’s IEP is coming up in less than two weeks. Unfortunately my support person/advocate will not make it to the meeting due to my son getting sick and the original iep meeting date getting pushed back by the school. I don’t want to push the meeting even further back by changing the date again, which is another 3 weeks from then. We are doing this iep process because my son struggles with delays in development and mild autism. His struggles to complete his work within the given timeframe in class, although he is intelligent. My almost 6 year old is newly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and anxiety. I wrote for an initial eval for an IEP. The school agreed and did all the evals. The deemed her ineligible for an IEP because she is too smart, "she doesn't need special ed" but offered her a 504 with PT, OT, Speech, and Counselor support. She is having an extremely hard time tolerating the school environment and is developing school refusal. I have a follow up meeting with the school tomorrow. I was hoping to see if anyone had any advised to help show them how much this is impacting her.

I requested my child’s records. I was given what I know is only a fraction of what exists, even though the list I sent of what types of records I wanted was pretty comprehensive. One of the things that wasn’t provided was service logs. I asked where they were, and the principal said that none of their providers keep service logs for any of the children in the school, not just my child. This is a title I school with a large percentage of kids having IEPS/receiving services/billing Medicaid. A parent was refused access to their students IEP meeting because he did not have his ID. He was with his wife and the teachers vouched for him, but he was still denied. For that reason he sat in the vehicle and listened via cell phone. Is that legally allowed by the staff or allowed at all?

My daughter has an iep meeting coming up and the time doesn't work for me but the school is unwilling to at least try and look at another time/ date...I told them tues/Thurs from 10am to 1105am I am not available in person or virtual. I feel as though my rights are being violated.

My son is up for his 3-year re-eval. Our school just hired a full-time school psychologist for the first time since my son enrolled here. They promptly made her the CSE chair. It seems like she is going through everyone's files to ensure the school is in compliance (because, generally, they are not). Grade: kindergarten. This family is refusing to take their child to school until an IEP is in place. The child has about another month before they are required by age to be in school, but the worry is by then the kid will have missed a lot of introduction to school. School is honestly trying to get all the testing and evaluation done as fast as they can, but parents' schedule are impacting the ability to get to evaluations. For how long can an IEP be used as a reason not to attend school?

Our kiddo has an eligibility of ED. A couple of weeks ago I was told he became frustrated in a general education class and walked out of the class and pushed two students. I asked for a copy of the document for the incident and was told due to FERPA (Dean of Students) that she didn't think I could have a copy because the other students name was on the document. What do I do when there are errors in test reporting? IE: administer writes of student norms based on grade 7 when student is in grade 8. When student doesn't try, openly says they're going to rush through the test, and the administer still moves forward with the testing, writing, test results can't be standardized based on the student's performance. And the test results are lower in scores than than when administered three years ago. Second test administer does only one observation, and it looks like student was compared to another special education student as the control student. How do we move forward with triennial when we have no confidence in test results?

Hello, I am a new advocate and I have my first client. This student is in 7th grade but at a 1st grade level for reading and writing. The student is in resource room for reading and writing. All of subjects she's in Gen ed. The school is "going away with the learning model " and putting her in Gen ed full time with push in services. OHI and SLD are the eligibility categories. Student has had an IEP since kindergarten. Any advice for an advocate moving forward with this would be appreciated !

Question: What do your kids do during their brain breaks from the classroom? Background: I have an AuDHD 10 yo. She has an IEP with service time each day for resource room time. This resource room time has been used for 20-40 minutes of breaktime a day. My child's biggest challenges at school are focus and impulsivity. These breaks have been scheduled to break up long chunks of classroom instruction. Her TOR has found this to be helpful for my daughter the past year +. Hello, My child is a sophomore in HS. We have always submitted our parent concerns letter and asked that they keep them and just add the new one. This year our case manager is asking if they can streamline the document by removing some of the old ones. I'm fine with that but wanted to check here to see if there is any reason to keep them or keep up to x # of years back. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much!

I'm a teacher for a virtual school, and I have two kids getting evaluated for spectrum education. I'm fairly confident IEPs will be put in place for both, not to count chickens early. However, it's virtual school with no in-person option. Based on interactions so far, I think some regular parent training on how to work with their kids beyond the standard school training might be in order. But I'm not sure what that would look like. Any ideas or resources.

I know that a PWN is important, however I am not clear if the parent has to request it when submitting a Parent Concern / Evaluation request? Or does the school automatically send it to the parent after reviewing the Parent Concert letter? Or does the parent submit a copy of their state's PWN form with their Parent Concern letter and ask the school to complete it? I've done quite a bit of searching and this piece is not clear. Hi all. I need some help with an upcoming OCR mediation meeting for my son who is disabled. In the state and district we are in, we have had to file two due process complaints in the same year. Both of these settled, fortunately, however, within a month after settling, problems still continued. We noticed that accommodations were removed (completely removed) from his IEP. I was talking with a parent and I generally have a good idea what to suggest but I'm stumped. The child has ADHD & anxiety and the IEP report said emotional disability which the parent disagrees with. The child started kindergarten with a 1:1. One day, the child was leaning on the aide. This was early in the school year and this was a new school but the aide was her aide in preschool. I viewed this as a comfort situation - a way an anxious child might self-regulate. advice on transportation ... Prek student rides the special education bus and the sibling (non iep) was granted permission from director to ride the bus with sibling (with iep). Child has separation anxiety and having the sibling ride with him ,helps tremendously. The new director has now told they cannot ride the bus with their sibling. Any tips on how to address this ? Hello The district I live in, but not the district my child is enrolled in, will not move forward with an IEP meeting. We did a Zoom call under the impression that it was the IEP meeting. When we went to it, they said that they will not have the official IEP meeting until our child is enrolled in their school. We did not get a report or assessment, IEP draft nothing. This does not seem right. Even if our son does not go to a school in the district, aren't they legally obligated to fulfill the IEP meeting and do a report/assessment themselves?
