Does This IEP Make Sense? What should I ask for?

My child is in middle school. He has been diagnosed with autism and ADHD. He has not been diagnosed with disgraphia, but cannot write. He forgets how to form letters and writes big. He also has processing issues. I’m told this causes him to be unable to write and type his own work. He had a one on one assistant half the day from second grade through fifth grade. Hi, I need help! I have been pushing the school to add higher level accommodations and get my child the support he needs for the last 3 months or so. since then, All they keep saying is "we're gathering data". This has been more than enough time for them to gather data. A month ago I requested an FBA to be performed and to move him to Tier 3 supports because we were getting notes from school every day about his behaviors. He has a social-emotional developmental delay. I gave verbal consent a month ago, and have asked numerous times to receive a consent form for the FBA, and they dragged their feet and finally only supplied it to me to sign on 10/06 (8 days ago!!!) What is the specific IDEA law regarding age of majority? Must the school provide formal or written notice at least one year before AOM is reached, and where in the IEP should it be noted, if at all? Please advise... Thank you

For the past three school sessions there have been repeated incidences of our student's accommodations not being automatically implemented/followed. This has typically resulted in an email being sent to the varied instructors and if necessary, a follow up email being sent to the Case Manager requesting intervention. I have an 11 year old son who has an IEP under OHI (heart defects and ADHD). My son is adopted and we have no genetic information or knowledge of prenatal care, good or bad. Since his last evaluation, his heart function has improved and he has been able to start taking ADHD meds. This is the first year he has struggled academically. The initial eval showed a below average iq score. However, in the meeting all of his struggles seemed to be attributed to inattentiveness. Is a new eval warranted or should we continue to use previous results?

I have a granddaughter starting Kindergarten and she has already been diagnosed by 2 Neuropsychologists. She is in speech and OT currently ( in pre-school) .Should my daughter be advocating for an IEP? The school called and said she would have to wait until school starts before they will discuss accommodations. She isn't sure what questions to ask or how to proceed despite her best efforts to get information. I am researching as much as I can to assist but as your website states-its not easy! I have a 13 y/o who has been on a 504 since the 3rd grade. At that time she was diagnosed with ADHD and SLD in reading and writing. At the time the report suggested a 504 accommodations for her ADHD and a 'tutor' doing Orton Gillingham for SLD. She's in a charter. At the time we signed on for the accommodations. What is the best way to prove FAPE for a child who needs ABA therapy? The school will not provide transportation at 1:00 pm from school to ABA therapy. The school states FAPE is being provided but the pediatrician, myself (advocate), BCBA, and mom do not agree. UGH!! And this is in Missouri. Thank you so much in advance.

My nephew is in Kindergarten this year and was evaluated for his IEP in preschool. He is autistic and nonverbal. I fought last year for ESY and was denied because they did not see regression. Long story short I fought with them because regression is not the only factor in Ohio. My question is what are some measurable goals to show proof he has regression (since that is what they are going with). It was his first IEP so it’s a very blanket IEP.

Two things.... 1.) My child is being provided a speech device through the school, but he is arriving with a device he received through private insurance and is extremely proficient with for the past few years. The school is providing mixed messages. The ST is saying the device will have the exact same language/system/vocabulary. She is also saying there may be different login pages. (I am assuming this to mean maybe a login screen or such with the school system's logo or disclaimers or whatever?). Hi, I had a question on invitation to participate in IEP meeting. Someone was just telling me about this and that I should be receiving one before our meeting so we know where, when, who is attending, and what is being discussed. I have never seen this though. Is this correct? We never get any information prior to the meeting.

My 5-YO son is pulled into SPED 30 min/week where he is read a random ableist social story with at least one other 5YO. Anyone have luck in specifying/providing input on what happens during this time? Anyone have luck in getting their child’s agenda ahead of time? Hello! It’s been a month already since my 9 year old child has started school. My child has a learning disability, AdHd, and Autism. He is in a general ed classroom and receives speech and spends 30 minutes every morning in the Resource room. He has had a hard time with his homework. His teacher gives him about 2 english pages and 2 pages of math homework. In addition to that, he has to read about 20 minutes daily and answer reading prompts. That’s just too much for my child. Is it common in other areas for a school district to deny a parent’s request for an outside agency to observe their child in the classroom? The child attends ABA Therapy two days a week and then attends school three days. I'm requesting my child’s BCBA to observe him, in his classroom setting, in order to better provide therapy when he is in the clinic. This could benefit the student, the adults who work with him, as well as his peers. The school district is denying it, citing privacy and confidentiality laws. In another special education group I'm in I've seen some complaints about UDL and how it affects IEP accommodations. I feel conflicted. On one hand, it looks like good principles meant to help as many students as possible regardless of disability. On the other hands, it seems like it dilutes the accommodations our kids do get.

I have been consistently doing a parent concern letter for 5 years. However, every year the IEP team does not put my letter into his IEP they have been picking and choosing what to put into his IEP from my letter. How can make sure that what is in my letter gets in his IEP in it's entirety?

I just received an email with the draft copy of our son's IEP for a meeting which is to be held Monday morning. Included in the email was a line that read that "the school system's new IEP software doesn't allow for customized accommodations". What??? Isn't there the IEP adage that maintains that the "I" represents individualized. How can this be? He's not a series of tick marks nor a "fill- in the- blanks". Am I missing something here? My six year old son has Down Syndrome. We recently moved into a new school district. He has an IEP from our previous district. In his IEP there are a few transportation modifications in place; aide, smaller bus size and curb to curb pick up and delivery. He is anxious when confined in a car seat. So it is my plan to request an evaluation for dysgraphia at an upcoming IEP meeting. My child is a first grader he has shown a fine motor delay since age 2 1/2 years old. He received OT services for approximately a little over two years which we voluntarily stopped. At that time my child was receiving Ot, Pt, and behavioral therapy weekly in addition to a school day. We had a lot if issues last year at school when my DD was in 4th grade. We got her IEP down to spending most of her time in the resource room (special education) with an hour in gen ed, and specials. She's an elopement risk, and they refused 1:1 so I settled for this. 5th grade started a couple of weeks ago. I am a special needs advocate and I have a client in MO trying to get transportation from school to ABA therapy at 12:50 every day. The child is in 3rd grade and has major behavior struggles, nonverbal, OCD, Autism, ADHD, anxiety. The school district says no they won't provide or pay for it. The ABA clinic is within the school district boundaries. Also, the school stated the child does not need the ABA therapy. We have a mediation meeting coming up. What should I present to get the school district to provide transportation? What legal leg do I have to stand on for this? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you so much!
