Does This IEP Make Sense? What should I ask for?

Son has an IEP that addresses executive functioning and writing with pretty much the same three goals for 3+ years. He was not provided any services during his freshman year (Covid), sophomore year turned out to be a bust (special Ed teacher essentially was lying on progress updates). My 2nd grader in inclusion class was diagnosed with autism, adhd and receptive-expressive language disorder in kindergarten (private neuropsych eval). He was classified Autism and OHI, but denied speech and language services because school eval showed average scores. Last year, first grade, I brought in a comprehensive language and literacy eval that again diagnosed language disorder, as well as specific reading disability and disorder of written expression. Hi My 9th grade daughter just started a virtual IOP. It requires 3 hours of group therapy 3 times per week plus 1 hour individual per week. She has an IEP for her OCD, and anxiety. She has been very school avoidant on and off for the past 2 years. Does anyone have any thoughts on Home and Hospital vs Independent Study while completing an IOP? The school is supportive and understands she needs to focus on her mental health first. We also need to come up with a plan along with her therapist before determining when and how much school to add back to her schedule. My son(5th gr) is in the Life Skills class at his middle school. He has escalations/ outbursts at least 2-4 times a day with most of them ending in being taken to the “blue”(padded) room. He has been considered a harm to himself and to others. Son is in 1st grade, gen ed, public school Academically inclined. Socially delayed, can be violent, big behaviors, Autistic, Emotional Impairment classification on IEP. Student is to receive Social Work services, multiple times per month. School started in August. No SW on staff, parents aren't informed. My 8th grade son (educational autism IEP) receives an accommodation for extended time on assignments, but according to new language in his IEP, assignments must be turned in by the end of the unit. My son's social studies teacher makes large project assignments due on the last day of the unit. As a result, my son does not receive any extended time on the assignments, even though these large project assignments are the exact type of assignments that my son struggles with due to executive functioning issues. My son is in the moderate cognitive class and he has two class mates that chronically cuss and call him bad names. The school states those students have tics and cannot control it. However, often it is directed at my son. He is very by the book follow the rules so the cussing and name calling really triggers him then he has an outburst; breaks his water bottle, needs time outside of class to walk and cool off, etc. while the other students get to remain in class and continue this same thing daily. I have asked what we can do about it and the teacher said nothing. What are your thoughts?

Minnesota- We are in the process of possibly having a conciliation meeting Tuesday. The school had responded to our objections we sent them on the consent/objections form and agreed to meet most of the objections (they finally agreed to keeping the IHP attached to the IEP), but there were some they didn't as they didn't think it needed addressing. The school called me yesterday just after dismissal saying my 8th grade son was in a fight. There is no school for the rest of the week for Thanksgiving break. They told me he can’t come to school Monday because they need to investigate, but they’re coding it as an excused absence not a suspension. I said that legally if they’re telling me my son can’t come to school, then that’s a suspension. My son says that the other child approached him following a school assembly and punched him many times. My son says that he did nothing to provoke it. Hello We have received our IEP draft for our upcoming meeting and we noticed history "Present level of performance" of last all years is removed. When we asked the school to add them in the draft , they said as below. "We are unable to keep previous present levels on the IEP. We were just audited and the Policy and Compliance Team wrote this up as an action to be fixed on the audit. Previous present levels can be found on prior IEPs. " Does that mean they have edited our IEP without our consent? We were never notified of such changes. Isn't this illegal? Please suggest what should I do.

Good afternoon, I just have a question. I am in Ohio and over the past few years I have had nothing with issues, with the school following my son's IEP. I emailed for an amendment and reasonings for the change, along with Why findings were not added to the IEP as it would change classifications. Also with the IEP now being post secondary why my son who is 14 and a freshman in high school , was not invited to meeting. They will not answer anything in less than a week and when I do follow up emails they get upset. What are my rights and how should I proceed ? Thank you

We had a meeting scheduled for 11/3 for my grandson (he lives with me and I help with his IEP). Speech therapist was out sick so the meeting was cancelled without notice (we sat at the school for 30 minutes). His annual review is due by 11/17 and his current services are not meeting his needs (he's suppose to be getting speech twice a week and ot once a week - we don't know if he's actually getting the services). Hello everyone. I have a 5 yr old daughter. The team did not feel she was ready for the demands of kindergarten. So this school year we decided to do another year of preK and introduce afternoon kindergarten. It is not going well in kindergarten. She is completely dysregulated and melting down in class. My 16yo daughter was diagnosed with Emotional Disability with low scores in Reading and Math. This is her second year in SpEd and is in the GenEd classes. I homechooled her prior to being in public school. She has IEP goals for math and reading, but nothing for Emotional Disability. To whom it may concern, How long does it take for a student to begin a new school after being dismissed from another? Our son was dismissed from his Elementary School because of supposed behavioral issues that we believe he did not do. We had a meeting, have met the new schools Principal, & behavioral specialists, yet have yet to hear back from the new school. It's been over a week now. My child struggles to learn in a group. The group could be 3 people or 30 and they are all the same. He thrives with individual attention and instruction. He is in an ASD classroom and is pulled out usually for gym, music, art. Is this something we can request in an IEP? Or is this beyond the scope of what special education would provide?

I had a friend reach out today, she verbally requested an IEP meeting with her son’s special education teacher to discuss her concerns that he currently does not spend anytime with non disabled peers, or in a mainstream classroom. The teacher told her it was too early to schedule one and instead scheduled a parent teacher conference with the principal, and the teacher. She asked both myself and here ABA case manager to attend with her. The only advice I felt comfortable enough to offer was to request a meeting in writing to start the documentation trail. We are in NC, is this allowed? Thanks!

My family and I are seriously considering doing a bunch of cross-country traveling this year. We do have virtual learning options via the public school, but I just learned some of the services my daughter receives cannot be done virtually if we're in a state where the providers aren't certified. Is that a real thing and what are the best ways around it? Or is it just the sacrifice we have to make if we pursue the travel idea?

Minnesota We got the IEP draft today. In the pwn, the school is refusing to keep our child's Individualized Health Plan attached to the IEP. They are stating the reason they can't is per the "bases on the principles for practice guidance provided by the national association of school nurses." Is there any good way of handling maternity leave when an IEP states "no substitute teachers?" It's one of those years in my grade where both teachers, myself include, are in the family way. Student was placed in my colleague's class, but medical stuff and family stuff went down, and so now she is off for most of the year for her maternity leave. The district is dramatically altering an accommodation claiming that the accommodation constitutes a denial of FAPE to the OTHER students. The back story: for several years our 16yo son has had an accommodation in his IEP that he may redo any assignment or test where he scores below a 70%. The school psychologist called me about two weeks ago to discuss his upcoming IEP and said the school would like to lower that threshold to 60 saying that they want him to mature into taking on more responsibility himself. We live in Indiana. This is the first time since our son got his IEP as a first grader that we have ever had a TOR who is incompetent. She is forgetful, scattered, doesn't respond to all questions, concerns or emails and cannot come up with any ideas to help our ASD1/ADHD son. Most of her attempts to get him to get work done in class is by telling him to do it. Then she emails me saying that he "refuses" or "won't" or "ignores" her. Previous TORs have then come up with strategies to help him with these as they are obvious ASD/ADHD issues. What are the pros and cons of enrolling a special education student part time to attend ABA therapy? Also, is it easy to move them back to full time in a couple years once they graduate out of ABA therapy. This is a 3rd grader in Missouri. Thanks for all your help in advance. Christi
