Does This IEP Make Sense? What should I ask for?

Hi. I wrote a longer question below but didn't get any suggestions so maybe it was too long! Basically I would appreciate guidance on when it is ok to lose an IEP (7th grade boy with ADHD)? I still think he needs emotional social support (meet regularly with school psych) and the school wants to exit him (after eval) as they say he is accessing the general curriculum well. Can an iep have only social emotional support goals and no academic ones? Thanks

Recently an inappropriate comment by a staff member was made at my IEP meeting. Admin was present and heard it, and it was also recorded. I also emailed admin to let them know I wasn’t okay with it. Admin set up a meeting to clarify what was said and staff member wanted to apologize. One day before the meeting I was informed that staff member was bringing a union rep. I declined to meet in this way as I believe it to be inappropriate to have a union rep present to discuss a matter that occurred during my child’s IEP. Can union reps even be allowed do this? Isn’t this a FERPA issue?

Is there anything I can put in the IEP to keep my son safe from others special needs kids that hit? This has been a huge issue and the school has not taken my requests for a health and wellness plan or any accommodations to help keep him safe. I just keep being told it’s a staffing issue, not an IEP one. My son has developed vomit induced anxiety because of this on going problem. Its only 3 kids lately but I feel because they have special needs to my son isn’t getting any help. Hello! My son has a 1:1 aide per his IEP. If his aide is absent and they cannot find a substitute, then he is not allowed to go to school. Is this typical for a school to just say your child has to stay home at the last minute? Should this situation be covered in his IEP? (Perhaps to point to the need for compensatory education if X days are missed?) Thanks!

My child’s teacher recently shared that one of the SLPs at the school resigned and that my child is not receiving the speech/language service time outlined in her IEP (the two SLPs were previously covering the service time). I have not received any formal notification from the school of this and have received no communication from the SLPs this school year other than a short check-in call that I requested. Should the school be tracker her service time? How do I address this? Are we eligible for compensatory services?

I was looking over my child's WISC-V report and saw something that looked odd. The report described what each index measures, then my child's results. When describing the visual-spatial index it says that according to research, the visual-spatial index does not have a large role in academics. It seems odd to understate the importance of an entire WISC index. All of my research shows that it does play a large role in academics, especially in the upper grades. Is this a typical statement on a student's WISC report, or is it specific to my child's school?

Can a school district 'unofficially' change my son's schedule when its convenient to them, even though he has an IEP and that is not his placement? Backstory: my 13 yr old son (2E, autism, anxiety, adhd, dmdd) is currently serving an inschool suspension until Thursday. But the district wants to keep him self-contained 1:1 with special education teacher Friday as well but not document it as a suspension (probably because he's at 9.5 days now). Self contained is not my son's placement. And they have done this several times before this school year for their convenience without documenting a placement change. What do I say to the administration when they do this?

I'd like to request for "safety assessments" for during bus arrival, bus departure, recess, and school hallways because my daughter elopes. Also during fire drills because my daughter freezes sometimes instead of leaving the building. Is "crisis training" part of school safety assessments? School may do the bare minimum but wanted to have an idea of what's involved in school safety assessments and put in an effective request.

My 7th-grade son has autism and ADHD. He has an issue with blurting out during class and school events. Blurting is explicitly discussed in his IEP in the Present Levels section and as an IEP goal. He is receiving direct instruction to decrease his blurting through his IEP. He is also receiving social and conversational skills training through Easter Seals. When facing educational assessments for IEPs, what tests actually help determine what will help guide goals and services for Middle School kids with Hyperlexia? Our son is not great at standardized tests, so these are not a great source of present levels or even cognitive functioning?!

Hello- I'm looking for a little insight into whether I should just give up here or pursue the issue. My son (8- diagnosed with autism and generalized anxiety) has gone to the school's ESY program for the past three years, since preschool. He is doing quite well academically (on grade level). We have an agreement they will agree to placing him there as long as he shows progress? He has mastered his last 2 IEP goals, loves it there and has made progress in our eyes. Hello, I have a 13 year old daughter with Down syndrome and her triennial IEP meeting is coming up. These are always stressful as I never seem to advocate enough for her... Anyway, she is currently on a life skills curriculum which I am mostly ok with, I just want to be sure that I am doing the right thing for her. She's had speech in her IEP throughout elementary and now middle school but is still has a limited vocabulary and is not always understood by others. She requested a PWN after the last IEP where her requests for a 1 on 1 aide and FBA to create a BIP (they said they could create one with "informal data") were denied. The IS sent her the PWN and the Assessment Plan (they agreed to a full evaluation because it has been almost 3 years since his ETR and he is now in kindergarten). There are 3 pages. Hello, My Child recently took a test. As per the IEP my child was given extra time to complete the test. The teacher told my child that she was taking too long and that it was unfair for her to get extra time when other children without an IEP did not get as much time. She said she planned to talk with my Child's case manager about the extra time. I plan to write an email to this teacher so she is aware that her comment was not appropriate and unacceptable. My 3rd grade son was recently diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia and disorder of written expression by neuropsych through an IEE. He attends a small, private school. The public district uses Wilson Fundations for Tier 1 intervention, with review of the Fundations material coming through the resource room. Neither teacher is Wilson certified. I've been told that the CSE isn't allowed to name a specific intervention program (OG, Wilson, Barton, etc). I'd like him to receive tutoring at his private school. Is that justified? What would I need to demonstrate in order to support such a request?

The school team devised an elaborate note card system for data collection. My son is being tasked with this data collection. I’m not sure how to address this with the team. I was hoping for some advice last IEP meeting I wanted my parental concerns on my sons IEP and I was told “at this time we are only putting down concerns if it’s happening frequently” at the time it wasn’t so I shrugged it off though my gut told me to fight back on that I’m not the type of person to do well with confrontation specially going in by myself with 10+ people.. Last week I had an IEP meeting for my son. When talk turned to ESY I said that I wanted the district to send him to a specific summer camp that focuses on social skills. The student services rep said she needed to talk to her boss as she wasn't certain on the district's policy on this. Now this rep asked for me to have a meeting with her and her boss (executive director of student services) to discuss my request. Should I take this meeting with the IEP team present?
